It had been awhile since I had a chance to play the master of metal, but the stars aligned to make me play this game. I’m really not a very proficient top player. PartyPooper actually told me that I’m a better League of Legends player than him, but I would have a harder time than him climbing elo because I don’t play top lane. I had been assigned the role of top, and I told my team I was going to play Teemo. Right after I said that the other team picked Teemo. I frantically checked to see if I owned Yorick, but I haven’t unlocked him yet. Without a direct counter to the furry rodent (which I love dearly) I resorted in playing a champion that does well against squishies.
I feel like Mordekaiser is a novel of fine print. Did you know:
- his passive is only half as effective against creeps?
- his passive decays at 3% per second?
- his Q deals 65% more damage to a single target?
- his W has a 1.2 AP ratio and hurts almost as bad as Malzahar’s ultimate?
- his ultimate heals him for the damage done?
- his ultimate’s ghosts is stronger than the champion killed?
If you can keep track of all of these numbers then you can take full advantage of them and Mordekaiser becomes a real monster. However, because of the way his shield works I have started building Mordekaiser with more defensive stats. Specifically this game I focused on Magic Resistance as the other team was mainly magic damage. This helps the damage that generates my shield keep me alive.
I went the long way to lane so Teemo didn’t jump out and try to fight me at level one. He was waiting for me. He jumped out of stealth and went ham on me. He burned Flash and Ignite, but I managed to escape with my life. I was regretting not running defensive runes and masteries. He didn’t kill me at level one, and he lost a lot of his kill potential, so I knew I’d be safe to farm in my lane a little bit. However, when my lane started pushing and I didn’t have Flash I knew Teemo would be able to punish me. I started Rejuvenation Bead so I could get Spirit of the Spectral Wraith, but Teemo started with a Long Sword, so his early damage was much higher than mine.
Eventually I got caught pushing Teemo under his turret. Amumu came up the river and Teemo rushed me. Without any creeps to generate shield I fell pretty quickly. I bought some defensive stats and a ward, got back to lane and tried to fight Teemo. We both had our ultimates now. I saw him dump a mushroom into the bush, made a mental note and continued with farming. When I had some good damage on him he committed to fighting me. I bursted him down, but then he darted into his trapped bush. I knew I would survive the one mushroom, so I stepped into the bush just beside where I knew the mushroom was. I saw another mushroom just before it stealthed, and finished off Teemo and got out of there. I used his ghost to push the wave while I recalled.
Teemo was building physical damage and on-hit effects (BOTRK, Frozen Mallet, etc). If I was in his shoes I would have been rushing a Wit’s End, as Mordekaiser ultimate is magic damage and a percentage of maximum health. This makes Magic Resist much more effective against him than just stacking health. It also reduces the amount of healing that his ultimate does, and reduces the amount Spell Vamp helps Mordekaiser. With the small amount of Flat Spell Pen that I had from my boots and Abyssal I was ripping through that Teemo.
The next time Amumu came to gank I was able to fight 1v2 and push Teemo and Amumu away. They had to run away. I walked up and started beating on the tier two turret while they stood behind it and just wondered what they could do. Eventually Nidalee came from mid lane and the three of them were able to take me down. I was finishing items fast, so I bought two pink wards so I’d be able to have some safe areas without mushrooms. When I went to place them I found myself a Teemo and picked a fight. I probably should have fought around enemy creeps because just smashing a Teemo generally isn’t enough spell vamp to make it worthwhile. I unloaded my E and Q on him, but then tried to disengage. I was trying to avoid Teemo’s damage, but I saw that my Ignite and ultimate were available. I needed just another second to get my E and Q back off cool down so I used Flash to create a gap, knowing Teemo would Flash to close the gap and he would fall into my trap. Teemo used his Flash almost instantly after I used mine, thinking that he had me cornered. I turned the second my E was back up. A full combo including my ultimate and Ignite and Teemo standing in melee range allowed my Creeping Death to eat him alive.
Later in the game we caught a few people on the enemy team out. Our Vayne was getting big and chasing people down, so I told Sejuani to come and help me duo Baron. She was really injured from the last team fight, but she agreed and stayed to help me. Eventually the Ezreal ghost died, so Ahri had to come help us to make sure we didn’t die. Sejuani used Smite and ran to make sure not to get executed.
With Baron buff we just marched down mid lane, caught someone out and the game was over. I didn’t even get a chance to buy my Guardian Angel! Did anyone notice that Sona bought Frozen Heart? Why not get armor boots and spend your other 2000 gold on something else? Teemo never took part in any of the team fighting, so the fact that he built AD should not be factored in to the effectiveness of Frozen Heart.
