Our early game was extremely rough.  Having Jarvan IV in lane means that you should either play aggressive or just watch him die.  Vayne had me to below 50 health probably three times in laning phase.  I felt bad for her.  If she could have gotten those early kills she could have snowballed the lane.

Let me tell you how a normal engagement would go: J4 rushes the enemy Vayne.  Blitz rushes me.  J4 gets to Vayne, auto attacks her once, then tries to disengage.  Blitz gets to me.  Punches me in the air, hooks me to him, drops exhaust, and continues to attack me so he takes minion aggro.  Vayne can just ignore Jarvan at this point and starts shooting me while I’m running from Blitz!  I hated it.

We got ahead a bit in bot lane because of expert ganks from our jungler.  Once we were ahead Jarvan’s mentality of “run at the enemy” started to work like Blitz’ was working at first.  I was farming calmly when I saw Jarvan go ham on the enemy team.  I realized he was probably in trouble.  I went running up to help him.  As soon as I’m within auto attack range Jarvan disengages and Blitz hooks me under the enemy tower.  Seeing that I’m going to die I kill Vayne before going down.  I then calmly explain to Jarvan that I don’t know how to help him do whatever it is he’s trying to do.

Our laning phase wasn’t the greatest experience for growing a super machine AD carry, so I was actually pretty glad once it was over.  I quietly scaled into a six item monster.  Nasus was really upset with me and he would wither me and hit me for half my health.  I learned at a young age to cleanse the wither and just DPS him down while he tried to solo me.

Late game fights were not a problem.  Just about my whole team was fed, so I just had the luxury of sitting back and avoiding crowd control.  When their Lux would ult me I would drop to below half health.  Many team fights were decided by lasers.

I did try to give Zed some constructive feedback about his laning phase, which at first he took offense to it.  I explained why I was giving him the advice and ended up getting honor from both of our randoms that game.  Though I didn’t do all the carrying, I definitely pumped out some serious DPS this game.

My 1000th Win With Dan

With much patience comes great things.  Initially I asked Dan if he wanted to play, and he agreed to play.  Then the only problem that we faced was finding a time when our schedules lined up!  I missed him before he left to IPL5, so I knew there would be a good amount of time until we actually got to play my 1000th win.

I finally caught Dan on Saturday night via Twitter and he said we should play Sunday morning.  I got on Sunday morning, Dan threw me an invite, and things got real.

We didn’t boot up Ventrilo or Skype, I just tuned into his stream and listened to him chat about the game.

The start of the game was super stressful for me.  I got matched up in a mirror match with Ezreal, and to see all these Gold and Diamond players in the loading screen told me that the enemy bot lane was going to have some talent as well.  Now the only thing setting the two Ezreals apart is our supports.  I got Taric, who has some moderate burst and decent sustain, vs Zyra, who has ridiculous range, amazing snares, and insane burst damage.  Luckily, we’re not playing in the League of Legends right now, we’re playing in the League of Cleavers.  This means that the League is no longer ruled by the best players, but rather this patch you win if you have the most Black Cleavers on your team.

I tried to get ahead in CS because I knew that Zyra would help Ezreal win any trade or encounter that we had.  I got ahead by 20 CS, then 30, then 40, just kept widening the gap.  When Dan ganked bot I went down, and I thought Ezreal finished me off.  However, it was actually Zyra’s plants that picked up the kill.  I managed to get a double kill on Ezreal and Nocturne, which put me in a good spot in bot lane.

I felt bad for top because it got ignored until the enemy Jax was so big that we were all afraid of him.  Well, everyone but Dan.  This Jax showed up to a team fight mid with finished Trinity Force and Guardian Angel, ready to fight.  He was ahead of everyone in the game in CS as he had been crushing our Xin in top lane.

The real story was Dan Dinh.  The team fight that broke out when Jax jumped on me went sour really quickly.  My team was close enough that he couldn’t just sit on me until I was dead.  I managed to space myself out a bit and start DPSing, but members of my team started to drop much faster than any did on the enemy team.  I went down and switched over to Dan’s stream where he was watching the fight break out and waddling his little mummy legs as quickly as they would go.  “Dan’s coming, guys!”  That was all he said.  Then he strolled into the middle of the team fight, and pressed R.  The kids who weren’t dead started running, but it was too late.  Dan took down Jax’s GA as well, and finished him and Zyra off as the announcer said “quadra kill!”

That fight definitely turned the tides of this game.  From there, the next big fight went down at Baron.  I got to deal with the Jax while the rest of the two teams fought.  It was not enjoyable.  I also had to use my QSS on the Morde ult that got thrown on me.  Jax was so big, that even with my sexy Black Cleaver I wasn’t getting through his girth.  I went down just before I finished him off, but the fight was already over.  Dan Dinh had just racked up another triple kill while securing Baron buff for our team.  Surrender inc…

Karthus tried to keep up with me in deaths, but I just had him beat.  Luckily, I wasn’t the worst Ezreal in the game, which is good enough for me!

Thanks for the 1000th Normal win, Dan!  Not bad throwing in a triple and a quadra kill.  Keep being the man in the jungle!

Why I Hate Darius

Darius was poor game design.  Who, in their right mind, gives a tank an executing ultimate that comes off cooldown if it gets a kill?  This was poorly designed, and something that the League didn’t need.  Thankfully, Darius gets wrecked late game by Mordekaiser.  Heck, early game I was pushing him around, but after three Fiora ganks before I was level six really set me back.  I was so abused by the jungler that I was actually falling behind in creep score.  At one point I remember seeing that it was 137 for me to 154 for Darius.  Good job having your jungler win you the early game.  Maybe go back to the drawing board in development and fix Darius.

Our Skarner wasn’t on Skype with us and we definitely felt it.  It was annoying to not be able to communicate a re-engage or when to impale and who to impale.  After the enemy team had Baron and our inhibitor down and was up in kills I figured it was over.  However, our Vayne was ahead by a full Bloodthirster on the enemy Vayne!  Darius couldn’t kill us anymore because Riven, Vayne, and myself all had Guardian Angel.  When I got GA second item a couple people in the call said “oh hey, that’s a really good idea.  That shuts down Darius hard!”

My favorite part about this game was my 49 magic pen hitting Fiora’s 0 magic resist.  She does have 24 from runes, two more from masteries, and 52.5 at level 18 for a grand total of 78.5 MR.  That helped me late game as she would just melt with only 22% magic damage reduction.

A Fiora ghost is a valuable ally.  When they fought us in our base I actually managed to tank three people’s damage while staying just around 100 HP while they dropped.  When they finally killed me I ran my Fiora ghost around and it healed me while my GA was bringing me back.  I just laughed at the ridiculous damage and spell vamp from that Fiora ghost!  We did as much damage to their base as we could, but didn’t want to lose for staying too long.

When the next Baron popped Riven and I were in bot lane.  We started running to Baron but we knew we wouldn’t get there in time.  Nunu tried to run in and ult to steal it, but got interrupted from his ultimate.  His Consume wasn’t enough, and the enemy team secured Baron.  However, Riven, Morde, and Vayne were ready to rumble.  We caught them before they could get out of the Baron pit.  Taking Fiora as a ghost we were able to clean up the enemy team quickly.

We use a Fiora ghost to tank both mid turrets while fighting an angry bird.  After we had the inhibitor down the enemy team started filing out one at a time.  This was our chance to capitalize on the enemy team throw.  We turn and go all out.  The enemy tries to react but Vayne is too much for them.  I fall after getting as much damage out as possible.  Vayne kills Darius.  Vayne kills Anivia.  Vayne kills Fiora.  Vayne is killing Vladimir and Nunu’s ultimate finishes channeling and steals the fourth kill.  Vayne kills Vayne and starts crying on the inside for missing the Penta.  Not Vayne’s fault, and it’s hard to blame Nunu when he was doing the right thing to slow the entire enemy team.  Still, a Penta is a Penta, and Vayne was robbed of hers.

Put it in the record books: Shen support beats Blitz support.  Blitz was looking at making the “big play” all game.  That’s why he started mana crystal instead of boots.  So level 1 Shen and Sivir just ran at me, Blitz whiffed his hook and then tried to play catch-up.

I don’t even need to go into detail about this game.  I was +8 kills over deaths.  No one else on my team was positive.  Next best was top who was only -2 as Jayce.  So pathetic.  In team fights Renekton and Diana would just throw themselves at me.  It just made me laugh that even if I used Arcane Shift and Flash I would still have a bruiser on top of me and my team would be looking at making “big plays”.  I was stuck attacking Renekton through his Guardian Angel and Diana through her ridiculousness.

I asked my team to peel for me.  Blitz said he would.  I said I needed Darius to be peeling for me in fights as well.  We never had another team fight.  People just got caught out and died and the game was over.  I tried to pass a surrender vote, but instead two people voted no so we waited an extra 20 seconds to watch them physically destroy our base.  I don’t know if people just wanted to give the other team the satisfaction of destroying more buildings or if they were too stupid to realize that the team they had fed for the last 36 minutes wouldn’t be able to drop our base that fast.  No one spawned before the base was destroyed except for our AFK Elise.

This was a normal game, but I’m pretty sure this is what elo hell feels like; people not knowing what they should be doing and just wanting to make “big plays” but they just fall behind in gold.  Sivir did pass me in gold, but that was after I had wrecked her in laning phase.  She managed to pick up four kills right near the end of the game as my team got caught out.  She had a better team, I had a better K/D.

Not at a “Loss” For Words

I always blog about my victories, but people never get to see my losses.  Maybe I like it more that way, but I don’t want to mask the sad truth; I lose games sometimes.  Luckily, I get to pick which games you see, so this will be my example.  You’ll notice the positive KDA and highest creep score in the game, but if you would have been in that game with me you would have believed that we could win.  That’s what I believed as I was playing.  I knew we could win this game.  All we had to do was somehow DDOS Irelia.

This game started better than it finished.  We probably shouldn’t have dragged it out this long.  Our bot lane was insanely strong with Ezreal/Lux.  Very skill-shot dependent, but high range and damage.  Lux and I shared kills, but she let me farm the creeps.  She was an exceptional Lux.  Despite a mental misstep of my own causing me to lose my Flash early we still were able to zone bottom away from creeps.  My 5-0-5 start combined with Lux’s similar start are not shown in this game.  Some team mates are too heavy to carry.

Losing out on five early kills to my support and jungler didn’t help me this game, especially when our top fed three kills and then rage quit.  I don’t know if he was ashamed or just bad, but if you’re going to take a solo lane and lose it you may as well stick around to help your team as best you can.  If you can’t survive top then gank mid, steal jungle, or gank bottom and take Dragon.  Your other option is to not feed three kills to top in the first five minutes of the game.

We stayed in this game, and had surprising success.  Our game plan was to ignore Irelia.  She was already fed.  If she showed up, we ran.  If we could team fight without her then we could win.  She actually verbally attacked her Corki after the game, saying that he was non-existent, so it was a 4v4.  He was still richer than anyone else on my team.

I probably should not have gotten another BF, and I probably should’ve grabbed a Last Whisper, I just was hoping to get to Black Cleaver and sustain with it’s attack speed and armor reduction.  This would have let me melt targets like Annie, Corki, and Jax.  Unfortunately, they were able to pick off Teemo and push to end.  In the final seconds of the match Irelia Q’d to get on Lux and Lux died instantly.  It made me question why I don’t play Irelia every game; if she can two-shot a champion of equal level with two items that deal damage while not using a summoner spell or an ultimate.  Ability Power champions focus the whole game  and all of their precious money into items designed to make them deal damage, and Irelia can counter that with a Trinity Force and Wit’s End?  Balance in all things.  I hate you, Rengar.
