Good Game Lost

Put it in the record books: Shen support beats Blitz support. Blitz was looking at making the “big play” all game. That’s why he started mana crystal instead of boots. So level 1 Shen and Sivir just ran at me, Blitz whiffed his hook and then tried to play catch-up.

I don’t even need to go into detail about this game. I was +8 kills over deaths. No one else on my team was positive. Next best was top who was only -2 as Jayce. So pathetic. In team fights Renekton and Diana would just throw themselves at me. It just made me laugh that even if I used Arcane Shift and Flash I would still have a bruiser on top of me and my team would be looking at making “big plays”. I was stuck attacking Renekton through his Guardian Angel and Diana through her ridiculousness.

I asked my team to peel for me. Blitz said he would. I said I needed Darius to be peeling for me in fights as well. We never had another team fight. People just got caught out and died and the game was over. I tried to pass a surrender vote, but instead two people voted no so we waited an extra 20 seconds to watch them physically destroy our base. I don’t know if people just wanted to give the other team the satisfaction of destroying more buildings or if they were too stupid to realize that the team they had fed for the last 36 minutes wouldn’t be able to drop our base that fast. No one spawned before the base was destroyed except for our AFK Elise.

This was a normal game, but I’m pretty sure this is what elo hell feels like; people not knowing what they should be doing and just wanting to make “big plays” but they just fall behind in gold. Sivir did pass me in gold, but that was after I had wrecked her in laning phase. She managed to pick up four kills right near the end of the game as my team got caught out. She had a better team, I had a better K/D.

Global Taunt

Teemo definitely has advantages that other champions doesn’t really bring to the game. However, there is one large draw-back to playing Teemo; the global taunt. Time and time again in this game I would have someone on the other team drop what they were doing and come to kill me. Luckily, it took at least 3 people on the other team to have to gank me, which took a lot of pressure off of other lanes. I actually killed Jax twice before level 6. I was so far ahead that LeBlanc had to come up from mid to swap lanes, and we traded kills.

We never really could stick to lanes; Sion and I kept lane-swapping to keep our obvious advantages. Little did we know Miss Fortune was becoming a Miss Monster!

Our lead dwindled into nothingness. My split pushing wasn’t paying off. I had managed to take bottom and middle inhibitor once I had my LichBane, but we weren’t able to get to Miss Fortune in team fights, so she was deading all of us. Our spirits were low. We could control parts of the map with mushrooms, but oracles were prevailing for the other team, combined with Banshee’s Veil. We had a prolonged team fight where we were able to get three easy kills by dragging the enemy team through a field of mushrooms up near Baron and top lane. Still unable to close out the game.

After one team fight, Jax and Nunu were pushing our base. Our chances of winning this game looked bleak. We honestly thought they would take our base in this push. After taking middle inhibitor they swung to bot and tanked the bottom inhibitor turret. We managed to get a kill, and we kited them long enough for Sion to come back up and get another kill. Death timers were up over a minute, and each death felt like a loss.

We were in a constant state of panic. We were too afraid to team fight, and too afraid of getting caught by Miss Fortune. Luckily, the game went long enough that four people on my team had oracles, so no wards could stay on the map for very long. I decided to try to catch the other team when they would go for their blue. We sat and waited. We saw them grouped mid, so we took a chance. We sprinted up towards their bot lane inhibitor. With two LichBanes and about 700 Ability Power on both APs we dropped it in seconds. We rushed the last standing Nexus turret. It fell almost instantly.

Then something magical happened. The enemy team had recalled and they came pouring out around their Nexus. I wanted to keep attacking the Nexus, but I knew my fate. Their whole team was affected by the global taunt of Teemo. I started to run, but they wouldn’t let this squishy bunny rabbit escape. I was melted by a full LeBlanc combo. We finished off the Nexus followed by several “gg”s in team chat. The game was over, finally, and somehow we had managed to win.

This game was such a miracle because we couldn’t beat that Miss Fortune, and we lost almost every team fight that we had. Hurray for back-dooring!

Smoke and Mirrors

Jake and I messed up in the previous game. We wanted to trade and swap mid for bot, LeBlanc for Pantheon. Somehow we both forgot. When the game was pretty much decided as a loss the other team’s mid started talking smack and I told him that I was supposed to be mid and would have destroyed him. It was extremely aggravating to have someone that obnoxious and rude talk about how our mid was a “rook”. I felt bad for Jake because I had forgotten to trade. The next game would be different.

Get right back into queue, queue pops almost immediately. We ban the same people, the enemy bans the same people. This is starting to look like a rematch! We pick up our jungle Skarner, same as last game, but this time the other team goes Ezreal and Olaf for their first two picks. I’m second pick, so I grab LeBlanc and lock in. I’m ready to get my revenge against this Veigar! However, instead of picking Veigar like a man, he proceeds to cycle through LeBlanc counters; Zilean, Ryze, Veigar, Vladimir. He stops on Ryze and locks. Ok, game on, Ryze.

We get into the loading screen and it’s not even the same team! All that hate and angst and plotting for nothing! I apologized to the other team as soon as I got into the game, because I thought they were someone else, and they politely replied that they were someone else. My team told me not to apologize, but they didn’t know what was coming.

I achieved first blood on Ryze while my team pressured the enemy blue buff. I also picked up a very early second kill against him. And a third. Their jungle Olaf was a very strong counter ganker. I made a huge mistake in waiting for my W to come up to jump a wall and died quickly to Olaf.

3-1 start wasn’t bad. 7-2 after that, so I picked up a soul stealer and went to work. I would pick on Ryze any time he got blue, trying to always keep him behind in creep score and roaming whenever I got ahead. When I got to 19 stacks on my soul stealer I was in a frenzy; I NEEDED that 20th stack! That elusive final stack to reduce my cooldowns and cap out my AP! It made me super greedy!

When I finished my build, chased down that elusive 20th stack, and was blessed by Baron Nashor, my Ability Power reached an all-time ranked high of 938! A LeBlanc with DFG and 938 AP? I could kill anyone on the other team before they got a chance to move. My unofficial quadra kill at the end of the game started with a blink over the wall to snag Taric. With Taric down we sieged the turret. I finished off Ryze, Olaf, and Vladimir in that team fight and the other team promptly surrendered.

Lane Switch

Surrender

I had just lost the game for my team in the previous match. I was camped top by the enemy jungler. I felt completely helpless. The only person who was doing well was v1ruz, who was mid as Katarina. We surrendered right at 20 minutes. Next game, while in queue I complain and say “Let me take mid so I can at least abuse someone” and my team listens. They let me take Mordekaiser mid. Support Zyra with Ezreal in bot lane. Solo top Renekton, and Shen in the jungle. I notice that when we have 6 kills the other team has 14, and I have 4 of our 6. Surrender vote comes, I vote no immediately, but hunterofthetiki asks me “are we surrendering?” and I tell him no. Vote fails 3-2. It continues to do so time and time again. I start to panic because my team is losing all of their lanes. I order everyone to come mid. I know we can win a team fight, we just have to get Graves. The enemy Graves is pretty big by this point, but if we can get him on our team, we can win this game.

Our mid pressure is insane. My wave-clear by this point is immense, and the last time Blitz hooked me I walked away with a double kill. And I’m twice as nasty now as I was then. Blitz is literally looking at my like I’m a tank, he won’t touch me, just tries to look past me. We get up to their turret and our Renekton takes a bit of poke (I think she got grabbed and then had to dash out, but almost died in the process). Without any warning v1ruz splits to run top, I’m assuming to farm. The other team kills Shen, kills Ezzy, then gets Baron for free. We can’t even contest it. New game-plan: wait for Baron buff to expire.

We do our best to keep defense up in every lane as the enemy closes down the cushion in every lane. They are running up bot lane, taking towers and minions, no prisoners. I ping Graves and say “just commit on Graves.” I see Empra dash through the enemy team, getting to Graves. I get the chance to drop a full combo on him, and instantly Graves is fighting on our team. Our whole team is shocked. We just stood up to a Baron buffed team, who has a double-digit kill lead on us, and we won the team fight? What’s happening?

That was the turning point in this game. By the end of the match we catch them out in their own jungle. They know that we are there, but they are moving as 5 as well, and thought they would be OK. I initially thought I started with R on Graves. However, I must have been CC’d. He definitely didn’t get ulted. My health started to drop extremely low. I unload the rest of my combo on him, see him drop to 1/6, and I’m in a panic. I need his health to run out before mine does. Then I realize my R is off cooldown. I take this fine opportunity to press R on Graves. He instantly dies, and my health starts to sky rocket. This Graves tanked their team while I chased after. I could taste the victory, just around the corner. Chasing Kat and Blitz into the base, Kat is just a step ahead, and ZING! Dies to Ezreal ultimate! Blitz just decides to stick around and see what I’ll do to him. Standing between the two Nexus turrets I blow up Blitz, then turn to finish off the base.

The Victory tag was surreal. Chat was spammed with people complaining about what I had just done. I hope this picture of the score screen captures what I really did.
