Pushing for Promotion

I was so close to promotion I could almost taste it. I knew that if I won one more game I would be in my qualifier. However, it felt like everyone was trying to win this game. I always hate it when the other team tries to win. It really warps my chances at winning.

We’re pretty sure that Zed is the most broken champion in League of Legends right now. He farms so easily and so safely. His damage scaling is completely ridiculous. His mobility is insane. I feel bad for the other team when I get a Zed on my team. The best is when they talk trash after all they did was farm and press R on people. I remember good ol’ days in mid lane of out-playing my opponent before level six. The game has changed.

The fact that we won this game was nothing short of a miracle. The game went long enough for Zed and me to get to six items. Once that happened we were able to win some amazing team fights and push to win, despite being down in kills and being down almost double in assists.

55-41 solo ranked Ezreal

 

In my first Promotion Series game I decided to go with Ezreal again. The Trinity Force felt really good on him. I was looking forward to giving it another go.

This win was mostly Sejuani’s fault. Sejuani and Shen were a duo queue. Shen ran Teleport. It was the nastiest combo you’ve ever seen. Sejuani ult would lock up a lane after they saw the Shen Teleport coming in. Then we would have 4-5 people standing in that lane raining on the enemy team’s parade. This was especially effective because Zyra and Caitlyn were just trying to push me under my turret. This resulted in them over-extending in lane. Sejuani would hit Caitlyn once and I’d watch her evaporate. I could hear QTpie in my head saying “DELETED”.

We were able to play relatively safe. Normally when your raid boss dies they will rage at the team and blame them for not doing what they were supposed to or something. When this Sejuani died I think they admitted that they were caught by the enemy team and apologized. 6-1, you’d better apologize! I just realized that the Shaco we had on our team in the game before was the Nocturne in this game. Small world! 21 minute wins are the way to go if you’re trying to rip through a Promotion Series!

This Janna was really great. I added him after the game just to tell him that he did a good job. You don’t get supports who are as competent as this one every day. It was a rare occasion. Thanks again, Bargaincrate.

New Master Yi

This was my first experience with the new Master Yi. The game was more than long enough to get a taste of what he could become.

One of the problems I foresaw at the start of this game is that if I’m playing Ezreal against a Tristana then I can win laning phase rather easily, but when the game goes late my Muramana and Iceborn Gauntlets don’t stand up to her Infinity Edge and Phantom Dancer combo.

In all reality we didn’t deserve to win this game after it went this late, but Tristana was only five items and, due to the recent popularity of Blade of the Ruined King, didn’t have maximum damage output. I felt like Tristana needed one good team fight to clean up late and then shove down a lane and win the game. Even though Tristana was never the one to clean up a team fight, we did lose a number of fights, but the enemy team wouldn’t just shove and win, they would dilly dally around and waste time. We deserved to lose this game more than once, and the enemy team didn’t check death timers, they just left, or avoided a 4v1 fight.

At the end of the game my Master Yi noticed that I couldn’t go toe to toe with Tristana any more, but I could easily handle anyone else. In the best interest of his teammates he engaged the enemy team as they were standing outside of our base. As the dust settled I walked away with a double kill and Yi finished with a triple kill, and we sprinted down mid and ended the game.

As a side note: Syndra was hitting like a truck. If she stunned me, she could DFG and press R and I would die. It was scary crap. I’m just glad we won!

They recently upgraded match making to take into account the number of games played.  To me, this means that I’ll be playing with more people around 1000 wins.

The first thing I hear after getting into this game is the other team complaining about my Ezreal pick.  They are saying that it’s FOTM and cliche.  That’s all well and good, but I’ve been playing Ezreal for longer than some of these people have even been playing!  It’s not fair for them to attack my champion pick unless I turn out to suck with him!  Time to prove all the haters wrong.

0/6/1 Vayne speaks volumes about how bot lane went.  I would have killed to have a Nunu support, but Taric ended up doing just fine.

Our mid lane got really fed, so not as much responsibility was left on my shoulders to deal all the damages, and Kayle was also building ADC, so I decided to go Frozen Fist and Static Shiv, which is what I like to call “the fun build”.  It’s honestly not so much about dealing sustained damage.  However, you still have a considerable amount of damage.  This build is about kiting with Q.  If you land one Q then the whole enemy team is slowed.  That means you get another one for free.  However, landing the first Q drops your cooldowns by one second.  Chaining multiple Qs means that your abilities have no cooldown.  With the cooldown reduction from Frozen Fist, combined with each Q landing lowering the cooldowns, it feels very spammable.  You can escape from anyone chasing you except for Riven.  She’s still broken because she doesn’t have to walk, she just uses abilities to catch you.  If Cristina Vee wasn’t so cool I would hate the guts out of Riven.

I had a really sick snipe this game too.  Lee Sin got away from Diana with just a speck of health.  I shot my ult from bot lane at their middle inhibitor and saw as it tagged Lee Sin.  He started to rage about how that hadn’t hit him.  Later, he wanted to report me for “hax” as I was able to hit him with Q three times blindly as he ran in the fog of war.  I love it when people think I cheat.  It makes not cheating that much better.

The Random Fifsh

When you play League of Legends teams normally consist of five players each.  If you have three friends that want to play, plus yourself, Reggie Miller would say that you have four people.  This means that you get stuck with what I habitually call a “random fifth” player.  This game, however, our team mate played as the fish.

I’m not a fan of the fish.  I feel as though she doesn’t bring enough to bottom lane.  Her crowd-control ability is a skill-shot with a very large cooldown.  Her heal and harass are both underwhelming.  Her ultimate is slow-moving and easily avoidable.  However, SirPwntheGreat showed me that one of Nami’s emotes makes fireworks, which I thought was very cool.  I had started liking her more already.

I made a mistake very early in this game.  I got condemned just after using Arcane Shift.  I probably shouldn’t have stuck my neck out as far as I did, and I was only level two.  Vayne threw her ignite down on me, but I used Cleanse to remove the true damage and flashed into the bushes.  Both Janna and Vayne tried to pursue me.  I knew when they got there that my life would be over.  It was in this moment that all hope was lost.

That’s me at 98 health facing a Vayne with a Janna shield, and way out of position just before I used Cleanse and Flash.  In a panic I just turned to fight.  That random fish knew exactly what to do.  She’s probably bailed over-confident Ezreal’s like myself out of situations like this thousands of times.  Instead of me looking like First Blood, bottom lane looking like this:

Thank you fish.  You really lived up to your name that game.  I paused momentarily after that double kill to write “I love you forever now” to which the fish responded with “I love me too.”

I honestly only buy Frozen Fist and Static Shiv because I love the on-hit stuff.  I just make sparks and ice as often as possible before the fun items get nerfed.

There were a number of things about this game that were enjoyable, and hopefully you’ll get to experience all of them.

For a few weeks I wasn’t playing Normal games with friends because I was waiting to get my 1000th win with Dan Dinh.  As you can see, I’ve surpassed 1000 wins, so I’m back to playing Normals!  However, during those weeks I would get invites from Guntai on a daily basis.  That poor guy!  He probably asked me to play at least six times.  I felt bad telling him no as often as I did!

When I joined his game he wrote in chat “whoa!” like he wasn’t expecting me to join!  I chuckled at that, but got him to add Dan and Steve to the game, and we went into a Draft Mode Normal, which was very foreign for me.

I mentioned to Dan and Steve (who were on Skype with me) that whenever I play with Guntai I do really well.  I don’t know what it is.  Heck, this game he went top lane and I went bot lane and still I did fine!  That’s not a spoiler, there’s a giant picture below that shows how well I did!

I was going to play Twitch again, but after the enemy had picked Miss Fortune and my support was locked in as Leona I knew I should play as Ezreal.  Ezreal just has really strong poke against Miss Fortune who wants to duel.

Dan and I were so upset about the last game that we resolved to play hyper aggressive in bot lane.  To match our aggressive style the enemy team decided to stop and do golems before coming to lane.  So here’s Miss Fortune and Lulu at 50%.  Literally started the laning phase at 250 life.  Dan Flashed to get on Lulu and I threw my ignite down.  Because I had started Long Sword I had to Flash to finish off the kill.  Miss Fortune didn’t leave, she just sat at her turret until we pushed the lane up.  So we kill Miss Fortune, 2-0 bot lane, 2-0 game.  We recall.  By the time we get back we were behind in levels.  We fight them away from creeps, totally zoning Miss Fortune and Lulu from getting any gold or experience.  We clear the waves and leave after Maokai comes to gank.  I get back to lane and Miss Fortune is level six and I’m still five!  This brings me to my next point:

This game is flawed.  Why is it that if I dominate in a lane and murder the enemy team that I fall behind in experience?  The only math I know about creep experience is that if one person is in the lane they get 100% of the experience, but if two people are in a lane they share it at 65.2%, which combines to 130.4% experience for anything shared.  This tells me that if one team juggles who is in the lane and they swap back and forth and the other team keeps two people there constantly, then the second team has the advantage, as they will received 30.4% more experience than the other team.  Well Riot, you really screwed that up.  Leona and I should have been way ahead of the enemy bot lane, but they both hit level six before either of us did.

Regardless, I tried a new combination out.  I got a Brutalizer and a Sheen with a Vampiric Scepter and went to work in bot lane.  If I was careful enough to time my Sheen hits then I was doing almost double the damage that MF could stand to put out.  Also, it let me take towers really effectively.  I had a chance to take the second tier turret and the inhibitor turret.  I backed off when Swain and Miss Fortune showed up.  However, Swain left when I stepped into the jungle.  I ulted over the wall onto Miss Fortune and followed up immediately with an E and Q and melted her.  She didn’t even bother running at that point.

The surrender vote passed and I broke the cursed losing streak that had been plaguing poor Steve.  Hurray!  Green on the match history!  I can’t help but point out that I had most kills AND most assists. It felt good to be back!
